Multi-tile Mural
decorations: Since indoor mural
decorations are normally substantially larger in dimensions than
single-tile decorations, much higher quality requirements apply in order
to be able to produce quality images for larger murals. There a two
digital image file formats that can be considered:
1 - Vector Format Files
The ideal file format
for digitally
produced art work should be in the vector format as vectors are
completely resolution-independent. Vector files permit us to enlarge any
such original, digital decoration to the size required by the mural
without losing any crispness and sharpness of the image, and no
pixellation at all will occur.
Graphic applications that create
such vector files as their native format are, for example: CorelDraw
(.cdr) and
Adobe Illustrator (.ai). Vector files can be sent to us as an attachment to an
e-mail as they tend to be rather small in size.
2 - Raster and Bitmap Format Files
Should no vector files be available
or impossible to create - as for example in the case of already
existing photographs and similar continuous-tone images - special care
has to be taken when preparing digital image files in the bitmap or
raster format:
Digitized images have to have
very high resolutions (~600 dpi's) and
should have the same physical dimensions as the
mural/tile to be created, or any of its constituent parts - which is not always possible.
This will
produce files of such large sizes that they can no longer be
e-mailed nor directly uploaded to our
FTP
servers. Even zip disks might not be able to handle the resulting
size load even for files compressed with such popular compressors as
WinZip of StuffIt.
Raster or
bitmap files of such sizes should be burned onto CD's or DVD's and then mailed to us. All files sent to us have
to be in a format that can be opened and read by our PC-based
computers. We prefer the Photoshop .psd
and/or the .tif file formats.
Please do not
send any .gif files. Files in the .jpg format can only be used if they are in
the required minimum resolution.
Should you not be able to supply
digital files at all, we might be able to use a very large-size photograph of
your decoration. Please note that already printed images - either from art
books, your own printer, etc. etc. - are not acceptable at all nor are
scanned images from such sources, even if the resolution requirements of
the resulting digital files are met. Only high quality, large-size
"old-fashioned" photos made from film negatives can be used
and even then some limitations might exist.
In general, the same quality requirements apply as those recommended for
the decoration of our full-color decorated ceramic
coffee
mugs. We also offer many tips and suggestions with respect to
digital files, images and full-color, sublimation decorations in the
FAQ section of our gift mugs web site.

Samples of Full Color Tile
Decorations:
Under certain circumstances, you might first want to see a sample
tile decorated with your digital art work before placing an order with
us. This not only permits you to see the quality of our sublimation
decoration and tile quality, but also, the suitability of your digital
art work file.
The requirements for successful tile decorations are very similar,
if not identical, to those for our gift mugs. Hence our policy with
respect to our full color tiles is the same. You can evaluate our requirements right
here even though they are written for our full color gift mugs.
For further information and details
on this very important topic, you might want to contact us by
